The big differences between warrior and derv for this discussion are:
-Skill runes
-what your primary skills are
-energy management

So I'd look at those, particularly the last two, to see the differences between how the two would play out.

A bit late, but I coulda told you to go war for the tactics, not the strength because of Soldier's Stance. IAS and blocking maintainable can make you a sizable warrior. There's some other good skills for tactics too, I believe.

For PvE Scythe Warr is amazing dmg dealer and tanker
I developed nice combo
Defy Pain as elite - your base for survival and dmg deny
Flail - IAS
Fear me + To the limit - for criticals and attack skills fueling
Body blow, whirlwind - base on adrenal = spammable, And no energy attack skills!
Aura of Holy Might - very solid bonus damage
optional:
Lions comfort - for self heal and additional adrenal fuel
any other u want

The key is that with fear me (criticals) and IAS and with AoE dmg (2-3 hits) you can deliver very good damage even without attack skills and if you add body blow and whirlwind? Its havoc!

Wars hit 50 - 100+ with swords...in HM... and are relatively consistant
dervs hit 0 - 150+ ...sporadically.. in NM ... have terribad energy management and are unless to the point where anet "promised" us a dervish update, not to mention dervs were supposedly meant to spam a shitload of enchants then run into battle half the time the enchants are stripped as fast as u can use em... u run outta energy for them and then proceed to run into battle AS the last guys dieing (if ur teams decent)... my personal verdict warrior u can hit as many guys and then some, every secondary offers you something and armor penetration you WILL notice in HM it adds anywhere from 10% - 40% depending on their armor (5-40 dmg respectively counting your min dmg) and on top of that warriors CAN use a scythe ALOT better than a dervish and have the energy management to maintain it via skills like warriors endurance and with scythes can achieve as high as 250dmg in HM to multiple targets not to mention whirling attack and the other warrior skills which can allow you to multiple targets with a sword, axe, hammer, scythe or hell even daggers!

My main has been a warrior for 65 months. Had a derv for 2 weeks when nf came out and deleted the stupid thing. Warriors can deal more damage with the dervs own weapon than the derv itself and are far more resilient as a tank. Most people that dont like warriors have run into a lot of bad ones or don't know how to play them at all. In the right hands a warrior can be completely brutal.

Despite what I said its all up to what you want to do. Dervs are far from useless and can deal sufficient damage and act as a tank with skills like avatar of balthazar and all their defensive enchants.
